Butch is super nice, so if you go request him. Only go if Michael isn't working! He is very rude...
Pros: Butch
Cons: parking

I have been going to see Katherine for maybe 2 years now, her work is flawless, she listens, she takes her time, you never feel rushed. I have been getting highlights for over 10 years now, and she is the only person I have ever gone to who does not ever mess up. Honestly, top notch, Ive lived in NYC for over 5 years and she is better than anyone I saw up there. No its not cheap, but if you care about the end result, she is your girl to see.
Pros: katherine, products
Cons: none

I have been getting my hair cut here for 3 years and I really enjoy the experience. I am suprised at some of the bad reviews. You have to tell them what you want, you cannot by shy about it. I have always been treated nicely there. They always offer you water or a coke and they are very careful to make sure that you are happy. I think that it is well worth the price. I can get my hair washed, cut ,and styled, my eyebrows done and tip for around $60. If you are on a budget ask for a new person, they are not as expensive, also they have student discounts.
Pros: professional staff, cool atmosphere, they will let you know if a cut is not right for you
Cons: you have to be specific in what you want

After selling my business in Texas (a salon) I moved to Charleston. My biggest fear was finding someone who would be able to dublicate the cut I so much loved. One of my new girlfriends had an outstanding cut, and I made her tell me who it was. So I'm at Stuart Laurence and I am extrememly nervous, and my stylist seemed quite young. She was professional and methodical, and I am SO pleased with the result. Overall, my appointment was on time, I loved the service, and checkout was fast and efficient. This is a very well run company with high standards at every level. I love that! If you are looking for an excellent experience where price is no object, you've found home.
Pros: Efficient, thorough, beautiful blow-dry

I recently moved to the South from Boston and have been looking for a good place to have my hair done. I've tried a few places and unfortunatley they ended up being too hokey and my highlights looked like everyone elses. A friend recommended Stuart Laurence and for the first time since I've been here I felt like I was in a real city! They were friendly, but not overly so. Very professional and finally some highlights that remind me of home. I'd recommend them to anyone, especially if you are used to living in a larger city.
Pros: Metropolitan baby!
Cons: No parking :(

A couple of weeks ago I was getting ready to leave on vacation and I had my hair done on King Street. I ended up leaving crying because my plane was leaving the next day. My car was parked in front of Stuart Laurence so I decided to walk in and see if they could help. They were really friendly and fit me in to correct my hair. It was a little expensive but well worth the compliments I received on vacation. Thank you!
Pros: Friendly, skilled, fast, and professional
Cons: No waiting area...kinda wierd.

I love that the first 5 star ratings posted are given by the owner and a worker at the salon. This salon is the most unprofessional- starting with the appointment desk right up to the owner of the salon. You wouldn't be able to fit him and his ego in the same room. The retention of their staff must be at 20%. They are unappreciative of the loyal clients they do have, expecting them to jump through hoops to book an appointment. I would not recommend the service being worth the price. Salons in Charleston are a dime a dozen. Don't waste your time or money!

I must say, the horrible experience started with the gentleman (hardly) who answered the phone. Had to be the rudest person alive and you will hear more than a dozen people tell you this. The stylist that did my hair would not shut up. Her energy level was thru the roof. Too much! She didn't even figure out my highlights, she had another stylist come over and tell her what to do. If I am going to pay a high end price at a "high end salon" I want them to have the knowledge themselves. I'm all about the experience I get when I am in a salon, all about customer service and this place has a lot of work to do to reach the lowest level goal of customer service. Worst experience of my life! Don't go here. Perfect place for college kids that don't care about professionalizm. Step up a little SLS!
Pros: the salon looks fabulous inside, a little too much going on
Cons: never judge a book by its cover

I went to several well known salons in the downtown area for natural results in hilighting and was disappointed each time (didnt cover the roots!). I finally went to Stuart Laurence only one week after having had my hair done with disappointing results at another salon, and SL fixed the problem. Friends have since commented that my hair looks the best it ever has.
Pros: location, skill, courtsey
Cons: could use more chairs to sit if you arrive early

I just got my hair done at SL salon and I left very unhappy. I would not recommend going here. The staff was not very well trained and they were in such a rush. I would never go back there so I really would not recommed it to anyone.
Pros: location
Cons: I felt rushed, not on time, sloppy hairstylist
