This place is awesome. Our service was great and the food was delicious. It makes sense that they have omly had 6 bad reviews in the past 4 years. The food seemed fresh, the srervice friendly, and the decor was comfoprtable. I would recommend to anyone visiting our wonderful city. One of my favorites downtown. Try the oysters from the raw bar and ask for Ivan. This guy is incredible at shucking oysters( something like 55 in three minutes) Hvae fun.
Pros: Food, service, decor
Cons: parking

My husband our 3 children visted A.W. Shucks or whatever its called last week on a short visit to the beach. My family has and has had for years, a home in Wild Dunes so we know the area pretty good. We went to this place with husbands family years ago, it wasn't very good but we figured we would give it another a chance. With out doubt I can say: this was the worst dinning experiance of our lives. My husband took one bit of his yucky food and then inspected the childrens only to find it to be nearly uncooked and foul smelling chicken strips with moldy ranch. It turns out the chicken was still party frozen and the ranch dressing was funky needless to say we immediently took the food away from the children. I talked to a lady to said she was the manager but it was clear the she could care less about the situation. I cannot believe that the city would let a place like this stay in operation, I don't know who ownes this place anymore but its a A.W ful!!! Horriable service, prices, and tourist trap decore, unsafe food, the list goes on and on. We went to wendys later and had a much better meal.
Pros: ummmm......wendy's is only a short drive?
Cons: food, prices, decore

This is probably the worst restaurant in Charleston SC. I grew up in this city and this place is a black mark on Charleston’s fine image. Food is totally over hyped, and this place has been going down hill for years. I urge anyone to try one of the other fine restaurants in the area!
Pros: central location
Cons: food, management, service and prices...this place is a black mark on our beautiful city

To start, the service was slow. My margarita's only resemblance to a real margarita was the salt on the rim. Sent it back and got a Bloody Mary. My wife's "She Crab Soup" had a 6 inch by 1/8 inch piece of plastic in it. Sent it back and told the waitress not to replace it. The shrimp in our sandwich tasted like frozen shrimp. Our waitress said that she talked to the manager about the soup. After we finished, (the French fries were the best part of the meal), the waitress brought the bill. She said that the manager "comped" the margarita and the "She Crab Soup". Well, duh!! It would have been nice if the manager came to our table to apologize for their sorry restaurant!

Poor seafood quality, high prices, small servings. Much better seafood restaurants in the area. B. Flowers--Atlanta, Ga.
Pros: Easy to get to if you're in the historic district
Cons: Poor quality-small servings-over-priced

I enjoyed my dinner at AW Shucks, and I do not even eat sea food! No, the restaraunt is not trying to pass itself off as some time of "fine dinning" experience-it is just a local sea food joint that has a following of locals and returning Charleston visitors. I had the pleasure of ordering the pecan encrusted chicken two weekends in a row and I would do it again. The food is undoubtably Southern and tasty. The staff is mainly college students who are freindly and helpful. The atomsphere is like that of any downtown sea food joint-sometimes noisy and crowded, but worth waiting for. Overall, I have enjoyed my experiences at AW Sucks and plan to return again!
Pros: More than sea food
Cons: Parking difficult

This restaurant must have some deal with the locals in order to rope in customers. Our group came here for dinner after getting "word of mouth" from shopowners. The food was terrible- overcooked rice, undercooked grits, oysters/clams with grit in them, and tasteless, overcooked fish. Not to mention that when we mentioned the beer tasted watered down, the waitress laughed at us, probably because she thought we were trying to get free drinks (we weren't). Complained to the manager (who took her sweet time getting out to us, coincidentally right after we'd paid) and got tired of waiting for her in the end so left after paying for a very overpriced and bland tasting meal. DO NOT EAT HERE!

After all the hype we ate here, and the food was awful. Will reccommend the fried green tomatoes, the water, and that's all.
Pros: fried green tomatoes, air conditioning
Cons: the rest of the menu, taste, limited parking

After a great meal the night before, we were trying to find a nice restaurant to have some seafood. I will resist the temptation of calling it AW Sucks. It did not prove to be the restaurant it had been built up to be by the folks we talked to and the other reviews. The she-crab soup was okay. The steamed oysters were okay. Maybe I am just not the shrimp and grits type of customer that they are looking for, but it was somewhat of a letdown. It looked like they had a good bar and that it might be okay to hand out in the evening, but eat before you go.
Pros: Accessible, Ambiance
Cons: Food, Value

This restaurant was awesome. If you love seafood, the selection is tantalizing. It is definitely on my list of places to eat at when in Charleston.
