jsn57 is right. The older reviews are for (I think) John's Island Cafe. The Fat Hen is not open for breakfast. This is Fred Neuville's relatively newly opened restaurant on Maybank Highway (John's Islant) and it is worth the drive from Charleston. Neuville was formerly cooking for 39 Rue de Jean and has simply moved some items straight from there to the Fat Hen's menu. The mussels are reliably good. The last time I was there had a special of a crispy, panko-coated soft shell crab that was exceptional. You can still eat on the porch. Go, see, taste for yourself.

Fat Hen Opened July 2007. These reveiws are for the restaurant that occupied this space previous to Fat Hen. Fta Hen did not open until July of 2007. Any reviews written prior to that date are not about Fat Hen

Terrible food.. Apparantly there are new owners. I had a chicken sandwich special and it was plain, tasteless and fatty. The "fresh" potato spuds" which were described by the waitress as being like homefries were nothing but frozen potato squares they had cooked up. My mother had breakfast -which she said was terrible and got sick the rest of the day. Last but not least, my mother and I had split the bill and my card was charged the whole amount, which I just found out. I expressed my dissatisfaction to the waitress and was totally ignored. No apologies at all from anyone. I left the whole sandwich on the plate.

It is a shame as this used to be a great place to eat, especially sunday brunch.

Don't pass by!. Had an excellent lunch on the front porch last week. Highly recommended. Wish I were there now. Great service, great food.

Worth the Effort. The cherry point shrimp were fresh and exceptionally good. Overall the food was very good - the prices were reasonable.

We were much impressed with the food and the warmth of the proprietors and servers. The dining was quiet and as we remember devoid of loud offensive sounds.

questionable employees. I arrived there at 7pm order my food around 7:15pm and it didn't get there until about 8:30Pm, even to order a drink took about 15 minutes. All during my wait also no one came to check on my table, and we had to approach someone about why our food hadn't arrived yet. The food was pretty good and much to my suprise it wasn't cold, but I don't know if it was worth the wait.
