Tips for Moonshadow Kennels

Best Kennel By Far, Going there for 8 years. I would politely say that I think the 1 star rating person on this site is on crack. I have been taking my dog to Moonshadow for 8 years and have probably boarded him there over 60 times. PJ and his wife Leah are AWESOME with him, I have a 100lb Yellow Lab. He is ALWAYS excited to go there, he runs right at PJ when he sees him and always comes back to me in perfect shape. Any bad reviews of this place or simply a.) not true, b.) a pain in the butt dog or c.) an isolated incident (which is doubtful). Both PJ and his wife are completely trustworthy, to the fact that they drop off my dog all the time and have complete and full access to my home and I leave them a blank check on the counter, and have done so for years. This is the place to take your dog, period.

If your dog is a pain in the ass and has allergies and has a bunch of issues, don't board them at all, not fair to blame that on a great place.

Moonshadow Kennel finest kennel in charleston. We have been taking our dog to Moonshadow Kennel for over 6 years and have had a wonderful experience every time. Our dog has epilepsy and the caretakers have taken every measure to insure his health and safety. After the first time of taking our dog, every time after he was actually excited when we arrived. It made us feel less guilty about leaving him when we knew he was taken care of and having fun while we were away. The location and grounds of the kennel is amazing, the staff caring, and our dog comes home happy and smelling sweet!

Charleston's Best Kennel. We have a rescued hound dog named Rosie. We needed a kennel and a good friend recommended Moon Shadow Kennel. Our friend said her dog liked Moon Shadow better than being at home. We've been bringing Rosie to Moon Shadow for daycare and over night stays for more than 5 years now. PJ, Lea and their amazing staff take care of Rosie just like she was their own dog. They are patient and loving with her and find appropriate playmates for her so her days are spent happily.

Two years ago Rosie had to have emergency surgery right before we were leaving for a trip to visit relatives. We postponed our trip by two weeks, but Rosie was still recovering when we needed to leave. PJ, Lea and the crew watched over Rosie with special care while we were gone. I called frequently for updates and always got a detailed report on how she was convalescing. Rosie's stitches needed to be removed while we were away and PJ took her to our vet. Rosie is also starting move a bit slower and to have some stiff joints and back pain as she gets older, and the folks at Moon Shadow are very patient and understanding of her special needs. I don't know of any other kennel that would give such loving and competent care to Rosie. We wouldn't dream of trusting her to anyone else.

Home away from Home for our four legged friends. I have used Moonshadow Kennels several times and have been more than pleased when dropping and picking up my four legged loved ones. The Staff was there to great me at the door with full knowledge of their business. My two dogs were given the best care. Clean and happy when I picked them up. My poodle mix is a little nervous around other dogs so the staff at Moonshadow was more than accommodating to her needs and offered to kennel her in the cat house where she could rest in a more quiet environment. My new puppy even got special one on one attention throughout her visit to help bring her out of shell.

I am been fortunate enough to be at Moonshadow after hours and can say that the facility is very clean and the dogs are well taken care of. And that is because the owners PJ and Lea Cronce are dedicated to their business and have a lot a passion about the animals they keep. I highly recommend this place.

Where dogs go to be ignored. Originally we had been pleased with Moonshadow however as time went on our dog continued to return with over and over with health issues.

The first time we were gone for ten days a when we returned he had a UTI and was going pee every five minutes and having accidents. Though it is possible that bacteria in water caused the UTI I was not immediately ready to blame Moonshadow. The most discouraging thing was that they failed to notice and inform me that my dog was going to the bathroom every five minutes, which is hardly normal.

The second time incident was a large cut on his nose. I am fully aware that dogs hurt themselves and but once again no told me that it had happened while I was away or when I picked him up. Instead, I picked a dog that was bleeding profusely to the put that I had a to take him to the vet to stop the bleeding.

The third time was by far the worst, I picked up my dog to find him covered in hives. I had to take him to the vet where they said that he had clearly had this rash for a number of days and had been scratching to the point that he developed a secondary infection. Overall it was $107 and a very scary experience. When I first contacted Lea she was defensive and said it may have been the food or new beds they have, she was totally unaware that I had provided my own food and his own bed. To that extent she couldn’t confirm that they had been using his food and bed. Later PJ acknowledge that they had noticed the rash but failed to notify us. This was even scarier to me! They noticed a dog was covered in hives and weren’t concerned he would go into anaphylactic shock and die!?!??!

Ultimately they admitted that on all three occasions they had failed to effectively monitor his health and consequently failed to notify us of his condition. To make up for it they offered us a $107 credit, which was laughable and simultaneously insulting. Seriously, I would have to be crazy to let them take car of my dog again. Overall I would say that Moonshadow is fine if nothing goes wrong with your dog, if something does happen you better hope you get home in time because they won’t notice and certainly won’t tell you if they do!
