Charleston's loveliest historic mansion was made for romance. – The Scene
One of Charleston's most famous inns, this property overlooks White Point Gardens in the heart of the affluent South of Broad neighborhood. Completed in 1892, the Queen Anne mansion was a wedding gift from a wealthy Charleston businessman to his daughter. The inn bears a striking resemblance to a massive three-tiered wedding cake, which makes it a popular tourist photo-op. But guests are sheltered from the flashbulbs by a lush garden and a sprawling wraparound porch--an ideal spot for taking in the view of Charleston Harbor.
The inn is popular with honeymooners, and for good reason: The nine guest rooms are lavishly decorated with period antiques and cozy canopy beds, and several have working fireplaces and private balconies. Common areas feature antique Persian rugs and Tiffany stained-glass windows. Continental breakfast is served in the mornings and high tea every afternoon.
Reservation issues – To be fair, we were never able to stay at Two Meeting Street Inn, so the accommodations may be very nice. Due to errors with their web reservation system, we were informed that we had a room when none were available. Despite being told a room was reserved for us and recieving a confirmation email from the Inn Keeper, when re-confirming by telephone I was told that they had made an error and that we would not have a room. The Inn Keeper (Karen) admitted that it had been her assistant's error and apologized, but she refused to even attempt to find us other accommodations. I believe that this is a poor reflection on the Inn and those making reservations via the web should be aware.
