This quietly elegant bed and breakfast envelops guests in Old-World luxury.. The Scene
Built in 1778, this inn served as a city residence for wealthy planter George Barksdale and his family. After changing hands several times and eventually falling into disrepair, the elegant, three-story house was restored in 1985 and turned into a bed and breakfast. The property sits on a quiet, leafy residential street just a few blocks from King Street, Charleston's bustling shopping district.

The Details
The inn's 14 rooms contain antique furnishings like four-poster rice beds and hand-carved armoires. Afternoon tea and sherry are served on the back porch, and silver-tray breakfast service (brought to guest rooms or served in the courtyard) consists of freshly baked pastries, fruit, juice and coffee. Hidden amongst the charming historical elements are modern amenities like cable TV and luxurious whirlpool bathtubs. Rooms with gas-log fireplaces make for an especially romantic stay.

Great Stay!. Walking distance from COC, or Market St. and the Battery. We parked the car and didn't get back in until we left! Extremely clean, alot cleaner than my house. Staff was friendly and very relaxed. Very good value considering hotels nearby are as expensive, and not as nice!
