My family and I visited Poogan's once and that will by our first and only time. I saw absolutely nothing special about this place. In fact, the menu is just plain weird. I guess if you like fancy-smancy "off the wall" and expensively priced "Food Channel" type cuisine then by all means eat there. It has been a couple of years ago but I do remember that it cost my two children and myself over $80 to eat there and that did not include the tip! If memory serves correctly, I do not remember experiencing any rude behavior on the part of the staff who waited on us. The restaurant is located in a lovely old house (reportedly haunted, although the waitress I asked about the "haunting" said she had never seen a ghost there). My biggest complaint was the price and type of food they offered - just not my "cup of tea" I suppose. My two favorite Charleston Restaurants are now "Hyman's Seafood" and "Bubba Gump's" and I highly recommend either of those two places. ;)
Pros: Nice atmosphere - you can eat outside on the porches, weather permitting
Cons: Did not like their menu items and feel it is way over-priced.

Just enjoyed a wonderful evening at Poogan's Porch. I live in Charleston and this was my first time here. The reviews didn't quite match my experience tonight. Our waiter was so nice and friendly. It did take about 20 minutes for us to actually order, but after we ordered, the appetizer was out in less than 10 minutes and the meal in less than 20. The food melted in my mouth. I had the Charleston Chicken, which is chicken on a flaky pastry with a creamy mushroom wine sauce..MMM! And there were plenty left overs to take home. My companions enjoyed the Calabash seafood platter and the pecan crusted flounder...wonderful!!!! All dishes came with Veggies and rice, and some mouth watering biscuits. If you visit the restaurant in February the usually have a special because it is the restaurants anniversary. They use 1978 prices, which is a steal! be sure to call ahead and make sure. Reservations are a good idea!
Pros: the food, unique atmosphere(it's an old house), She Crab Soup, great quaint location
Cons: it was a bit too warm inside, and it took sometime for the waiter to come take our order
