Excellent food!. The food at McCrady's is sublime. Artfully presented, well executed, imaginative modern menu in a delightful setting. Our rather large group were seated upstairs in a room where George Washington once visited and was the perfect location for our private dinner. There were a few minor service errors (wrong dishes for the right people and some cocktails taking forever to appear from the bar downstairs) but the amazing food took outshone any slight negatives. I look forward to eating there with just my Husband for a romantic treat when we visit Charleston again.
Don't waste your time or money. Went there in mid-February while visiting Charleston on the recommendation of the concierge at the hotel where we were staying. Unfortunately, it was a disappointment. The service was EXTREMLY slow, the food was decent (a bit fufu), but not worth the HIGH PRICE. We were sitting in a side room, which also contained a private room. While there seemed to be enough servers, the one waiting on us seemed to always be hurried. There are far too many excellent restaurants in Charleston to waste time here.
worth the wait. After walking the historical alleys, it was great to stumble into McGrady's, with excellent service, plenty of smiles and warm feelings.
McCrady's still great. Chef Brock has done great things since taking over the kitchen. He uses local farms for produce and cures his own meats making excellent plates with various sausages and hams. Had the Monkfish which was excellent.
Favorite Restaurant. As a local, this has always been one of my favorite restuarants downtown. The food is always amazing and you can't ask for a better environment for a quiet evening.
The worst place to have private parties..
I had my wedding at McCady's.
The food and the servers were good, but the event coordinator Christy Loftin wasn't helping me at all.
She never replies your calls or emails, she makes you think that you are not an important customer for the restaurant.
I had to work guiding people at the restaurant on my wedding day since she wasn't preparing well.
Later, instead of apologizing for not having enough time to communicate with me, she blamed me for not communicating with her.
That was the worst customer service I've ever experienced.
McCrady's is dreadful. Although at one time McCrady's was a fine restaurant, this is no longer the case. They did NOT win the James Beard award and righfully so. I dined there two days ago with my family and embarked on a long journey of disapointment all night. The portions are tiny with hefty prices. Food was cold on scorching hot plates, bland, flavorless, you get the idea. Staff is relativley freindly and the decor is lovely, but mark my words your will go home hungry after spending about $250 per person. The money is best spent on wine since it doesn't come form thier kitchen, Charleston has many restaurants close by that are far superior to McCrady's, spend your money there.
Worst Dining in My Life?Family Embarrassed. I will NEVER spend another dime at McCrady?s. I live in Charleston, have been multiple times and have spent literally thousands of dollars at this restaurant over the last year bringing in friends, family, and important clients. Previously the food was innovative, the atmosphere was exquisite, and the service was perfect. Unfortunately, I brought my brother and wife visiting from San Diego in to dine and there had been a substantial change in this establishment?s business practices. Last evening there was a limited tasting menu with no wine pairing (which we always order) and every dish was based around tomatoes. My brother is allergic to tomatoes. We asked if we could have an alternate possibility. We were told by our very good server, ?no?. Based on the limited menu, we decided we would depart. I explained our decision, he understood. We left him a $10 tip for pouring us water and we were met at the door by Mr. Clint Sloan, the beverage director. He told us that if we didn?t like the menu prepared for us, then we should leave. He also said if we decided to leave then we ?should never ever come back? and they ?that did not want our business?. These were the exact words that were used; I remember as he repeated them 3 times. We made advanced reservations, were appropriately dressed, very courteous, and not a bunch of ?yahoos? and were told by the beverage director that they ?did not want our business?. I was shocked and embarrassed that my family that had traveled so far to be with us was treated so poorly, especially in our hometown which is known for its courtesy and good manners. If you decide to visit please heed my advice that you are taking a chance in which you literally could be treated like you are a second class citizen. It was the worst I have ever felt as a dining patron in my life. I will ensure that no one in our family, or any friends of our family ever gets treated the way we were, by ensuring that we never visit McCrady?s again.

I nominate Sean Brock for Best New Chef ever..... After living in NYC and Washington DC and working in the restaurant and wine industry, I was floored when I stepped into the McCrady's Wine Bar one Saturday night in early December to celebrate a birthday with some friends. The Wine Bar emotes an old basement jazz club style with the brick walls and huge couch like seating - like a fancy living room filled with couchs and ottomans and low coffee tables...makes you just want to sit and sink in for the night. When they say that the wine list is one of the largest in Charleston, they weren't kidding. When you read the menu you might be a little puzzled because it reads very simply and extremely appetizing - only the ingredients are listed leaving the technique and presentation up to the imagination and inventiveness of Chef Brock and his staff. We ordered the Roasted Artisan Foie Gras, 26 Hour Wagyu Shortribs and Fish & Chips which turned out to be Sashimi tuna with wasabi cream on a mustard cracker - holy cod on a stick, what a combination!!. The greatest shock was the Bacon & Eggs - don't think breakfast here..this was an assortment of tender pork with a poached egg and a confit of tomato with a rich consomme redolent of bacon - this is for all the pork-lovers of the world, I tell you. My night was serene, my belly full of the luscious wine and incredible food - I can't wait until I go back for the Tasting Menu. For anyone who is a fan of El Builli and the chefs who use their imagination and science instead of reciting a recipe from a book - this place is for you.
