There are finer restaurants in Charleston. I will have to agree with some of the previous reviews, my dining experience with the peninsula grill was mediocre at best. We were seated promptly, however I was immedietly surprised with the noisy atmosphere of this so-called four star restaurant. The dining room is undersized and overcrowded, not at all what I would consider a romantic atmosphere. I was dissapointed with the discourteous demeanor of some of the staff members. The food is excellent and the wine selection is astonishinly diverse - however I would not reccomend Peninsula Grill, there are many better restaurants within just a few footsteps.

There are better places to eat in Charleston. The Peninsula Grill comes highly recommended from a lot of sources. We found the restaurant to be particularly unattractive in decor, the staff was very stiff and not as friendly as one would think. In fact we thought the staff was down right rude. If you are debating between this and another restaurant, pass on the Peninsula Grill.

A disappointment at a great restaurant. Formerly our favorite fine restaurant in Charleston. The food is excellent; though not the only excellent food in the city. Service is impeccable and the ambiance, though noisy, is truly an experience.

What is disappointing here? The overall noise is one thing, but excessively loud individuals who have more than a little too much libation reminds me more of a second rate bar than a fine restaurant.

top notch food. knowing nothing other than the citysearch (amongst others..) reviews, i opted to take my wife here for our 10th annversary dinner. and thankfully so. the food is exquisite - elegantly prepared, delicious sauces and compliments. our server was very knowledgable and attentive. the chef came to check on us. we talked at length with the sommelier. it was pampering at it's best. be prepared to pay for it - the prices are not disproportionate to the food by any means, but this isnt your $9.99 meal. my largest complaint was the decor - while sedate and unobtrusiove, it didnt add anything to the experience. not what one would expect for a fine dining establishment.

excellent dessert...famous coconut cake. After going to a restaurant in town that we thought was average we decide to go to Peninsula Grill for dessert. (We had been there before for dinner and it was very good) It was 11 pm and they were very accommodating and sat us right away. We were able to order the coconut cake which is excellent.

A Charleston Favorite. Great location, impeccable service, wonderful presentation, and delicious food. Charleston is a favorite vacation and business spot, and the Peninsula calls us back every time we are in town. Chef Robert has done a superb job with every aspect of the restaurant business. If you have only one night in Charleston, do two things -- first, extend your stay; then call and have dinner at the Peninsula.

Well, I declare!. Excellent, excellent, excellent! What a terrific restaurant. I ate there last Thursday while traveling on business and could not have been more pleased. Started with the delicately flavored Lobster and Corn chowder, just delicious. My traveling companion had the Grilled Jumbo Sea Scallops in truffled corn coulis which were the finest I've ever tasted. For the main course I had the Bourbon Grilled Jumbo Shrimp with lobster basil hush puppies, the sauce was just incredible. My partner had the Tempura Soft Shell Crab - very good. For dessert we tried the "bannana pudding" what a great variation on this traditional dish, and the ginger creme brulee - so good! Overall a sensational meal. I would go back in a heart beat.

Excellence. This is the best restaurant in Charleston. When we have to entertain important visitors from out of town, this is the place. Elegant, delicious local dishes. Service is the best in town as well.

hit my sweet spot. Any place with such an extensive raw bar AND full menu will fast become a favorite of mine. Only problem is that there are too many choices! Luckily we had a large group at our last visit so I got quite a wide menu sampling and it was all good.

Great food, even better people. I had a great meal at Peninsula Grill, but it wasn't only the wild mushroom grits and double cut pork chop that still have me smiling, but it was the service, too. From the second I walked in the door, I was treated as if I was their favorite customer and had been going there for years, even though it was my first time. I can't wait to go back!
