Great Oysters Poor Service. 1 Star for Service or lack thereof..I've been coming to Pearlz for years. I bring my oyster loving family from out of town and frequent Pearlz when I get the craving for delicious Blue Points. The oysters are bar none the best selection in town, 5 stars for the oysters. It pains me to give a one star but thats exactly the service that I experienced there last night. The server we had was the only reason for the one star review. My partner and I planned a special evening starting with our favorite raw oysters at Pealz. We came early knowing that the bar gets a bit loud, so we were immediately greeted and then sat at one of the long tables in the middle. I found it odd that the server did not make eye contact with me or even direct any questions at me, maybe when she brings the drink, nope great eye contact with my partner but not a word to me. It was made quite apparantly she is a bad server when explaining the different oysters she turned her back to me and leaned into my partner to explain them only to him. It made us both very uncomfortable and was quite unprofessional. She was working quite hard on my partner for a tip. I understand the old chivlarous ways of the man ordering which is common in Charleston but to only speak to the man is just plain rude. A lesson in basic communications for this wait staff member would be required if she were to keep her employment with me. A word to the managment and the wait staff when a customer comes into your turf they are guests and should all be treated with respect and a smile. Your role as a server is pivotal you can make or break the experience. The food may be amazing but if you miss the mark on service, you may have lost a long term customer. This was the first time that I have ever left just a $1 tip for service. However when the money is coming out of my wallet I would appreciate being spoken to not just my spouse.
