The MUCH Better Version of Panera..
Excellent Homemade Soups, Salads, Sandwiches, Pastas and Desserts. Everyday they have different specials and 4-5 different soups of the day. I would recommend the Marinated Chicken Breast Sandwich with Pesto, Fresh Mozzarella, Tomatoes and Raspberry Vinaigrette. Everything is really fresh and consistently good!

Best deal in town.
Whenever I go to visit my son in Charleston, I try to manage a meal with Five Loaves which is within walking distance of my son's house. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, I have eaten there is fantastic, creative, and fresh. My only disappointment in the restaurant has been when I am only in Charleston on a Sunday when the restaurant is closed. These hardworking Five Loaves people need a break but I do wish they were within walking distance of MY house in Gainesville GA. I know, fat chance! Thanks heavens, we get to Charleston occasionally.

Wonderful soups, salads and sandwiches.
Not a fancy place, but superb soups, salads and huge sandwiches, plus pastas and dinners. Unique entertainment on weekends. A neighborhood place that most tourists will miss...to their loss.

fresh, fresh, fresh.
I on the other hand have eaten both, and find that dinner is superb. The wine list is small, but well chosen. There features a chalkboard of special wine as well. The pasta is all freshly made, and the portions are generous. I had a wonderful seared tuna dish, with risotto and asparagus for only $14. Check out there sister restaurant in park circle called Sesame where the burgers are all freshly made, even the katchup, mustard and mayo are made in house. The beer seletion is out of this world. By far the best burger in Charleston.

Great for lunch, not for dinner.
I've been to five loaves twice: once for lunch and once for dinner. I have to admit, for dinner, I wasn't impressed. I was lured in by half price wine night, but the wine selection was so-so and the food the same. However, for LUNCH this place was delightful! My mom and I went and split a half a sandwich, small salad and soup. All was delicious and the portions neither too big nor too small! Check out five loaves for lunch, but skip dinner.

Editorial Review.
Quaint restaurant serves pastas, gourmet sandwiches with housemade cheeses and meats roasted in house, as well as homemade soups.
