Some of My Favorite Charleston Restaurants.
August 13th, 2010
Like Ms. KayGee says.....I absolutely adore this restaurant! Their buffet selections (everyday from 12:00 to 3:00 PM) are always outstanding and hold a sweet surprise at every visit. I've been enjoying this wonderfully warm and comfortable eatery since at least 2003.
Their tandoori chicken is one of my personal favorites; and the chicken chili and chicken tikka saag will be sure to astound! Try anything there...and you surely won't be disappointed. Naan, lamb kebob, pakoras, etc....don't forget to finish such an excellent meal with a cup of the masala tea! WOWW!!!
I absolutely LOVE them. I've eaten there at least 20 times now in the last 2 years and every time is a wonderful and unique experience. The food is always spiced to perfection and tastes home made. Their Naan is absolutely the best, softest, freshest tasting bread I have EVER had (and I eat a LOT of Indian food). They always check up on you with extreme frequency to make sure you're enjoying your meal and don't need anything else. They vary the buffet pretty often so you know you'll have a different experience even if you go 7 days a week. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THEM! Better than ANY other Indian restaurant in Charleston.
think twice. If you don't mind being challenged about the age of your children when it comes to the bill, it is possible to enjoy your time. My experiences there were mixed. Dinner was better than the lunch buffet, though the rudeness did it for me. I won't be back.
authentic, spicy, tasty Indian cuisine. I love Nirlep and frequent it at least once a week. The food has the perfect amount of spice and warmth...my faves include the Spinach Paratha, a soft wheat bread stuffed with spinach...chicken tikka masala...a warm creamy tomato-ey sauce with clay-oven baked chicken...my husband loves the lamb vindaloo and the onion bahji (fried onions with tamarind sauce). All in all, we feel at home and crave the savory tastes you can't find in American foods...try it!
Worst Indian food imagineable. Worst Indian food you could imagine. It is very disappointing. They don't even know how to make a simple dish like vegetable samosa. The owners are very unpleasant. They are so clueless that you can tell they are talking about you and making fun of you in whatever dialect they speak. Do they think the customer dos not know this? They look at you like you are an annoyance . Rice dishes taste terrible as if cooked in sand and mud. In the summer they have an industrial fan(really) blowing right at the customers in the small cramped space of a restaurant. It is like being in a wind storm. They do not have the slightest sense of how to season any dish. Nasty rude people who do not know how to cook. It is amazing they stay open.
Indian food - at its worst. Where do I begin, the place is so untidy, the place very shabby and the food just awful. This is the worst ever Indian food I have had my whole life! The service is poor, tables are dirty and the plates and silverware were unclean and just plain nasty. I am never going there again.
Not Authentic, very poor service. If you are looking for an authentic Indian cuisine experience, look elsewhere. Chinar is another Indian restaurant downtown, and they are much better. I went to Nirlep once, and that is one time too many. The food was very old and stale, the buffet looked very dirty and oily, the people working there are arrogant. They have such poor customer service. I strongly suggest that you avoid this place, go somewhere nicer. There are a few good Indian restaurants in Columbia and some awesome ones in Charlotte (NC).
Great FOOD. This is one of two Indian restaurants along HWY 17 in Charleston. I feel this has the better food quality and variety. Also their lunch buffet is GREAT. Love the papadams on the buffet. They have a sister restaurant in Mount Pleasant which is also very good.
