Food Sucks!!!. I joined this forum just to write of my wretched experience today on January 14, 2012. The seafood menu was pathetic. They don't specify what fish is on the platters mostly. They just call it fish. Hushpuppies, which cost pennies to make, were only offered with a few meals. They should be free in a basket as soon as you sit at a table. Regardless, they weren't worth eating anyway. My wife's shrimp were medium 40 count at best. Imported I'm sure. Nothing in that restaurant is local. For these reasons, I ordered the 1/2 pound cheeseburger. A welfare ration of American cheese on an over sized Bubba Burger cooked on a dirty grill is all it was. I would have been better off eating fast food. It was so bad, I couldn't even finish it. To top that off, the fries were cold when they got to my table. The only thing this place has going for it, is the staff and the atmosphere. If you're wanting a real seafood experience, I would recommend Captain D's (yuck), before I recommended this place. - Clay from Charleston, South Carolina. Born and raised.
Service. Had to discuss at great length about what it was I desired to order. It appeared the kitchen staff were unable to make what was ordered from their menu; caeser salad, salmon, side of fries. Very disturbing to have to lobby with the waitperson to get what the customer desired. 062110. 6:05 pm
This "Forrest Gump" theme restaurant serves up shrimp and movie memorabilia nationwide..
In Short
With its distressed-wood bar and framed "Gump"-isms, this franchise is teaming with kitschy fun. Chock-full of movie memorabilia, framed still images from the film line the walls while Depression-era props perch on shelves. Expect a piped-in, good-time vibe: Smiling servers quiz diners on movie trivia. Popcorn shrimp, peel-and-eat shrimp, shrimp po' boys--practically every preparation Bubba ever conceived is available in huge portions for not much money.
FUN Forrest FUN!. I have been several times and the food is delicious, the servings are generous and the service is STELLAR! My favorite entree is the Bourbon Street Mahi Mahi, delicious. I love the trivia questions about the movie. The kid's meals are super cute in those paper boats. All around great food and it's a fun place to hang out.
Always a good time!. I moved to SC from the North a couple years ago, and discovered Bubbas. I love it!!!!!!!! It is just the right way to begin or end a day in Charleston. Much more casual and relaxing than many of the restaurants downtown. I can't recall a bad experience there. The staff is friendly (as most Southerners are) and really know their stuff! Loved the "I'm Stuffed Shrimp" and their sweet tea! Very family friendly.
don't bother if you care about good food. typical chain-like food. very disappointing with disinterested servers. Probably not a bad place to just have a quick beer but nothing more.
u r in charleston...some of the best restaurants in the u.s.. wow, this place does not hold a candle to some of the other restaurants in town. the staff was nice, not very knowledgeable of the menu though. the food was very commercial. if you actually care about good food, this is not the place for you. keep in mind, i am by no means a food snob, but there are a ton of local resaurants with much better food a way better prices.
Okay food. We went for lunch. The wait was short. We ordered the appetizer sampler and a shrimp po-boy. They were both okay. The service was a little slow. The day we went draft beer wasn't available, but they had beer in cans. We were disappointed in the food. It just wasn't that good.
GREAT TIME IN CHARLESTON @ BUBBA'S. Originally, from Charleston...I know the rep Bubba Gump's received when coming to Charleston from all the competing seafood restaurants. HOWEVER, this place goes above and beyond in service, quality, tasty food and overall experience!!! Fun for both families and friends, this is a great laid back place to go enjoy one of their tasty specialty drinks, a "Bucket of Boat Trash" (Seafood combo) on a sunny afternoon while sitting on their great patio taking in the sites of the City Market. Also, they have a dog friendly patio area if you are a pet lover!!! And tasty dog cookies for your pooch. However, if you aren't fond of furry friends, the patio is so large....you don't have to sit close at all. Freshen up on the movie before you go....
User review by rmelzer. My wife and I had lunch there Saturday last. Ate in the open air with the pigeons. Could not believe they seated people with their dogs. Anyway, we had a bucket of shrimp each. Not too bad except that the shrimp were on the small side. Definitely for tourists. Wait staff is nice but not too effective.
